Autonomes BIPoC Referat

The autonomous BiPoC department aims to make a statement that the university can be an institution that consciously deconstructs its colonial history and takes responsibility. The department's goal is to advocate for marginalized and racialized groups at the university.

Theodor Wonja Michael Bibliothek

The first Black Library in Cologne opened its doors on February 19, 2022. The Theodor Wonja Michael Library aims to portray the diversity of African/Black culture and history. Through knowledge dissemination, they strive to work in an anti-racist and empowering manner.

Decolonize Cologne

Decolonize Cologne was founded in 2018 by three historians in Cologne. They offer decolonial city tours and lectures to shed light on Cologne’s colonial past and its continuities in society, using the city of Cologne as an example.

Global South Studies Center

The Global South Studies Center Cologne (GSSC) was established in 2014 at the University of Cologne as part of the Excellence Initiative by the Federal and State Governments of Germany. The participating researchers explore the social, economic, political, and cultural changes in the countries of the Global South, with the aim of making these developments more visible and promoting new options for addressing current and future global challenges.

Vielfalt & Chancengerechtigkeit

The mission statement "Diversity and Equal Opportunities" adopted in 2013 and the "Equal Opportunities Strategy" developed in 2018 are important milestones in the internal strategy process; the "Joint Guidelines on Equal Opportunities" agreed in 2018 with RWTH Aachen University, Cologne Technical University, Forschungszentrum Jülich and the German Aerospace Centre also show that the UoC is continuing to develop standards and is networking regionally on the subject.
